Gandalf greeting the crowd during Saturday Jam Night!

FIT: Hi Gandalf, can tell me abit more about you?
‘G’: Sure! I’m Gandalf, I’m 30. I come from Auckland NZ. I’m the Program Director for Lesmills BodyJamTM. I’ve been dancing since I was 11 and I start to teach dance and fitness class since I was 12 so I’ve been teaching for 18 years.

FIT: Beside group fitness what other interest do you have?
‘G’: I do a lot of Hip-hop. I dance with a crew and we competed in the World Hip-hop Championship. We are the Hip-hop Champions in New Zealand.

FIT: How do you find about this convention?
‘G’: This event is so cool and amazing! I love teaching in a huge room, stage speakers. I get to scream and everyone goes with me its amazing feel.

FIT: What’s your opinion of jammers in Asia?
‘G’: Jammers in Asia are amazing, they are crazy and they are so passionate. People in Asia are so passionate and they love the program so much. I’ve gone to city like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Tokyo and also Bangkok, everybody that does BodyJam they love the program so much with authentic passion and that’s what makes the program so special. People don’t do it because they have to but they love doing it.

FIT: Do you mind to share with us what kept you motivated all the time?
‘G’: MUSIC! Music is the one keeps me going. Everyday I sit down probably for an hour and I look for songs online and I find new music that sounds different, new kind of feel, new kind of flavors then I will play it in studio and start dancing and a new choreography comes out. So it always starts with the MUSIC.

FIT: Before I end this interview do you have anything to add on?
‘G’: Sure! Stay true, stay true to why you want to dance. When people fall in love with dancing there’s a real authentic energy and the more you dance, the more you teach it become a job it then it can become tiring. You have to stay fresh and love what you do everyday so sometimes you might want go to other class, go to shows, musical, dance show and stay INSPIRED. Sometimes when you put out and you give and you give and you don’t get any back it could be bad but when you get some thing back occasionally it just give you energy back and fire up your passion!
