Here we have Safran Halimi, our Fitness Educator at FIT Indonesia to share his experience at AFC 2013, Bangkok.

What is your background? (Professional certification, education, years of experience, achievements, etc…)

Safran: I actually have no educational background in relation to fitness and I didn’t even finish my bachelor degree in order to pursue a career in fitness. Sounds crazy, huh? Because I’m so serious about fitness, this is my passion. In the first year of my fitness career I decided to take 2 PT certification exams (ACSM and ACE) and passed. Been a Certified PT since the late 2010. I used to work as a trainer for trainers in one of the big gym chains in Indonesia. It happened in my first year in the fitness industry. Lucky! I applied to be a PT but then after just a few months being a trainee I was chosen to help train the trainers. And it’s what eventually led me to teach at FIT Indonesia during that time. I’m also a big fan of aesthetic looking muscles, it has always been my commitment to always stay in a great shape. I do love to compete in men’s physique class. Competed a few times and finished a few at the top 5. Been featured once as a cover model of a local fitness magazine in 2012.

Is this your first fitness convention? Have you been to any other conventions?

Safran: This is not my first time at the AFC, attended it the first time in 2011. I haven’t been to any other fitness convention other than the AFC.

What’s great/different from the past AFC or other conventions that you have attended to?

Safran: AFC is always great I think. It is even getting better since there are more and more participants come to this convention. Lot more fun stuffs have been added to this event which is great.

What are the most memorable moments there?

Safran: Dancing together with the crowd at the closing of the convention. I never dance like that before. Frankly, I’m not confident enough to dance. Was fun though!

Which presenter’s session you enjoyed most?

Safran: Peter Twist, Jonathan Ross and Fabio Comana in Tragedy to Triumph session was awesome. Very inspiring to me! And the other one is the Pick The Purple Cow session presented by Fabio and Lawrence is also great.

What’s the most valuable thing learned there?

Safran: You have to be passionate. What we do is a great thing for the world. We are changing the world. Be proud of it.

What do you expect for next year’s AFC?

Safran: Keep on doing the great job. I want to see more Strength and Conditioning sessions from different experts. Hopefully more trainers from Indonesia can attend this event and create an even greater influence in my country.
