COURSE OVERVIEW
The purpose of this course is to implement the fundamentals of power-based weight training. Ultimately, this will give fitness trainers all the knowledge they will need when teaching and coaching beginners, and for preparing weight-lifting protocols into safe and effective, regular training programs and sessions. This certification is not a specialized weightlifting program, you cannot take an athlete to a weightlifting competition once completed. This workshop is to guide you on power-based weight training/weight- lifting as a form of functional fitness using more than just the barbell. The barbell is a very advanced tool, so as a progressive strategy trainers can use the kettlebells and dumbbells as precursors, or alternatives in order to train for power.
weightlifting vs. weight-lifting
In order to truly understand the role of a trainer, it is essential to grasp the accurate terminology and distinguish between weight training, weight lifting, and weight-lifting. “Weightlifting” is defined as the act, art, or sport of lifting barbells of specific weights in a prescribed manner, either as a competitive event or conditioning exercise. In modern weightlifting, there are two standard lifts: the snatch and the clean and jerk. It’s important to note the distinctions between powerlifting, bodybuilding, weight training, strength training, and resistance training. Having a clear understanding of these definitions will enable trainers to communicate more effectively. “Olympic weightlifting” specifically refers to the sport of lifting weights contested by athletes at the Olympic Games.
