This event focuses on understanding Breast Cancer and appropriate Pilates exercises for the patients and survivors. It is an opportunity to learn and share with our in-house physiotherapist Pilates instructors about Breast Cancer.
Pilates is a system of exercising that strengthens the whole body using a wide variety of exercises created by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). Specifically, Pilates helps Breast Cancer recovery in the following ways:
Deep breathing – It is enlivening, stress-reducing, and it works the deep supporting muscles of the trunk.
Rebuilding scapular stability – Common Breast Cancer treatment injuries – nerve irritations, frozen shoulder, impingement, rotator cuff injuries, and lymphedema are all possible conditions that makes recovery challenging.
Through Pilates exercises, it helps the supporting muscles of shoulder girdle to build stability and strength.
Focuses on overall body – while focuses is on gaining full range of motion through the chest and arm, the spine and lower body will not be neglected. The Pilates program targets on regaining or maintaining optimal postural alignment, enhancing stability and movement qualities of daily activities.
Low impact for recovery – Gentle recovery exercise regime after a break from exercise, and possibly after difficult treatments. Many Pilates exercises are done lying down, reducing the risk of a fall or over-exertion.
Enhances physical and mental well-being, improves self confidence and control.
