9 out of 10 of our clients complain about not having enough TIME to work out due to work, family, social, parties, kids and the list goes on..
Our ACE certified PT managed to overcome these common barriers and empowered people around him to start an active lifestyle!
Fit: Hi Shahril! Congratulations for winning the 1st runner up prize, in the Pose, Snap and Win Contest! How did you feel when you were told that you won?
Shahril: It was amazing! I actually target to win the 1st runner up prize to get the 2.0 CECs worth of workshops. So I got my colleague who is also now my personal training client to snap a photo with me. Coming out with the caption wasn’t too hard either, because I really meant what I say and it was my actual experience.
Fit: Tell us about yourself?
Shahril: I am now working full time as a transport planner. I was a school rugby player when i was 16 and I started working out in a gym when my group of friends suddenly go crazy after getting fitter and strengthening physique. I went along due to peer pressure but eventually i developed strong interest in fitness. I worked in a commercial gym before as a gym instructor but stopped to pursue my career.
Fit: Since you are working full time, what’s your work out routine like?
Shahril: Not only I’m working full time, I’m also a full time dad and husband with 3 kids. I hit the gym 3-4 times a week at night after work. On weekends, I either swim, cycle or play football. I have a group of friends whom we train and go for competitions.
Fit: That’s very intense! How do you juggle your time between family and work out?
Shahril: I want my kids to be active like me, so I arrange recreational activities for them. The little ones enjoyed the bonding session and they get to suggest and decide where we are going.
Fit: What about your wife?
Shahril: She, initially was feeling left out because she suffered from knee pain hence she is not very active. However, I managed to ‘brainwash’ her into taking up cycling by buying her a bike and getting her to join my cycling group. And she LOVE it! Now she’s attempting to run and we’ve already signed up for several runs to keep her motivated. It’s good that we now share the same passion and hobby 🙂
Fit: That’s great! So what’s your direction as a personal trainer?
Shahril: I’m still trying to get more experience training clients. I started by doing the ACE Personal Trainer Course in Fitness Innovations Malaysia (FITM) to make my interest official. I want to be recognised! When I was training myself and friends around me, many questions regarding training and nutrition started popping out and the ACE Course clear many of my doubts. However, the more i learn, the more I crave for knowledge. It’s never enough! I have a dream, to train school kids in sports performance. It’s a pity that world class athletes are made at that age, and yet schools nowadays do not have certified coaches. So I will work towards working to my dream.
FiT Malaysia wishes you all the best in realising your dream!
