Mr KL (Sunday June 17th), Mr Selangor (Saturday June 23rd) & Mr Putrajaya (Sunday June 24th)
FIT Malaysia’s very own gym instructor ( and my very own personal trainer ! ), 21 year old Eric Koh has done us proud !
He took part in the Mr KL event at Wisma OCM on Sunday June 17th, where he placed 5th.
Then the following Saturday, June 23rd, he took part in Mr Selangor … where he placed first runner-up.
And to top it all off, the next day, Sunday June 24th, he won the title of Mr Putrajaya !!!
Here is his story of how he got started in his first bodybuilding event – Mr KL …
“I grew up as a thin boy, and got into the world of lifting weights at the age of 16. Couldn’t see much change because the eating & training weren’t right. The turning point came when I enrolled myself into a much “hardcore” gym – from there I trained hard & ate even harder. I started seeing great results and I thought I was on the right track.
Then, the passion I have for fitness led me to take up the ACE PT course @ Fit Malaysia. I learn so much more from there as time goes by, because of my surroundings. I now train smart and not hard; eat whenever my body tells me to and can seperate myth from fact. Everything works better !
Back to Mr KL … In December 2011, Jerrican ( M.D. of FIT Malaysia ) was telling me to join Mr. KL 2012, but I didn’t bother as I did not plan to go that far. My fitness goals were just to stay fit.
Fast forward to a few months later and Jerrican still nudging me to compete. This time something hit me. Realizing I am turning 21 this year, and had not accomplish anything big/ challenging throughout my entire life, I accepted the challenge.
So training wise, I made some minor adjustments. Whereas for the diet, I eat clean throughout the week with a good reward meal on the weekends. Then comes May, I started to stress out as my body was not looking like championship material ! I figured that I had to do something about my routine, so I took action. My diet went “cleaner” and training intensity got tuned up, and thankfully I was able to break the plateau. I doubled my attention towards training and dieting and did not bother about the posing until the final week. I only started practising the actual posing 4 days before the show. I was feeling very keyed up the few days leading up to the event. Not wanting to let my family and friends down, I kept up the punishing schedule of training, dieting and posing.
Show day morning was thrilling ! I went extra early just to get myself in the mood. I got registered and weighed then spent time just chilling out while waiting for the official to give us the “warm up” signal. At noon, the officials told us it was time to get ready. Adrenaline rushes as Jerrican helped me to apply the artificial tan and all I could do is just pray that everything goes according to plan. And stage time!
Was a little sloppy, as I was nervous but everything went well I’d say..for a first timer. Heh!
The unexpected came as the official announced that I got 5th place. #Proud&Honored
(Putrajaya 1st Prize!, 24th June 2012)
And we are very proud of you, Eric !
