Recently, we had the FiT Weight Loss Specialist workshop held here at FiT Malaysia that was conducted by Jerrican Tan. We had the privilege of having participants from all sort of background. Here we have 2 students, Iman , a nutrition student and Raja Aisyah, a fitness enthusiast that is kind enough to lend their time to tell everyone on their experience during the worshop.
What are the new things that you have learned in the WLS workshop?
I learned about the7 E’s. And also I learned to set small goals that the client can accomplish everyday so that they feel they have achieved something. This will give them the motivation they need to keep going.
Iman with her group members conducting a trainer-client consultation role play.
Here is what she has to say about the group work:
I learned that there is the client and the trainer, and although personal training might be our life, it’s not the client’s. they have a life outside of the 1 – 3 hours we see them a week and we need to learn to adapt to their life not them to ours. In a nutshell, don’t expect to alter their life drastically. Start slow, there might be a list of 30 things you want to change, for them to be at their optimal weight, only start with 1 thing and work on it for the next 6 months.
As a nutrition student, what is your take on the workshop? Does it help you to understand better?
It was pretty basic for me as a nutrition student. That being said, Jerrican made sure we all could understand it and all the stuff covered was on point and easy to understand. The group work really helped us fully understand the main concepts of nutrition.
Iman enjoying the exercise part of the workshop with fellow classmates.
Overall, was it a good workshop for you, Iman?
Yes. Definitely was. I really enjoyed it, I would have loved to have it be longer.
What is your thought on the workshop, Raja Aisyah?
I am not a personal trainer but this workshop has given a lot of knowledge and not just theoretically but practically and hands-on as well. I would say that any personal trainer would definitely be valuable for them.

What’s that valuable thing that you have learned?
Well, losing weight is about changing the mindset. Each individual has different diet and exercise that would be suitable for them. Programs must be tailor-made for each and every individual.
Thank you for those who joined the workshop! See you guys soon!
